Ar (アル)Ar (アル) is a three piece formed in 2003, in Tokyo. Running the gambit of electronica, rock, and folk — The band’s first major label album LOVE LU LE LO was released on 2009.11.11 and is available at amazon.

I recently talked to Ar (アル) members Atsushi Kubo (Vocal), Yoshitaka Fujimoto (Bass) and Tsubasa Ohta (Guitar) about the band’s name and overseas fans.

Who are the members of Ar (アル)? What instruments and brands of instruments do they play?
Kubo: Ovation Ag, SHURE BETA 87 (microphone).
Fujimoto: Fender Jazz Bass, Fender Mustang, Nord Lead 2.
Ohta: PRS standard 24, Sadowsky New York.

Ar (アル) is an interesting band name, is there a story behind it?
The name describes the band’s sound and character side.

Who or what inspired you to pick up your first instrument, and how old were you?
Kubo: Because, I came to want to sing during my university days.
Fujimoto: I was influenced by a senior person in my area. I was 13 years old.
Ohta: My grandpa gave the guitar. I was 13 years old.

Remembering back to your first time in front of a live audience, what comes to mind?
There was to much electronic gear and it took a lot of time setting it up.

What has been your biggest triumph as Ar (アル)? Greatest challenge?
Triumph? As a member of Ar (アル) — finding what makes us happy.
Challenge? Finding what makes listeners happy.

If the whole world were listening, what would you play? And why?Ar (アル)
i+i — There is happiness in the playing. It wants you to sing it.
