King of Jett RockerTouted by themselves as “The World’s Greatest Jet Rock ‘n’ Roll Band” Guitar Wolf is a garage punk power trio founded in Nagasaki, in 1987. The band coined the phrase Jet Rock ‘n’ Roll to describe their musical style; a conglomeration of punk, traditional rock, heavy distortion, feedback, and screamed vocals.

In March 2005, bassist and founding member Billy, also known as Bass Wolf, died of a heart attack at the age of 38. His replacement in the band bassist U.G. has become a permanent member of Guitar Wolf and now rounds out the trio which currently consist of band members Seiji (Guitar Wolf), U.G. (Bass Wolf), and Toru (Drum Wolf). After a 5 year US tour hiatus, on 2010.09.24 Guitar Wolf rocks North America!

Firstly, could you please introduce yourselves?
Guitar Wolf: King of Jett Rocker. Guitar Wolf will save R&R in America.

What is Guitar Wolf’s description of Basic rock and roll?
GW: I received prophecy from Elvis and Bruce Lee. They both told me “Save R&R.”
That’s my mission. That’s the foundation of my rock.

Who or what inspired you to pick up your first instrument, and how old were you?
GW: The first instrument I picked up was my kinder garden teacher’s boobs!

Remembering back to your first time in front of a live audience, what comes to mind?
GW: I was nervous. Because it was the first time when I realized I was a terrible guitar player. What did I do then?
I became angry to myself and crazy like hell. Ever since, I’m feeling the same way when I’m on the stage.
Write it down. It doesn’t matter how bad your musical skill is. What matters most at the show is your power. Show
your guts!

What has been your biggest triumph as Guitar Wolf? Greatest challenge?Guitar Wolf
GW: After one of the shows in San Francisco, a beautiful lady winked at me. That’s the triumph.
The greatest challenge was knocking on the door of her hotel room.

How has your style changed from your first release `Wolf Rock` from Goner
GW: Record Memphis TN, to your current release “Jet Satisfaction?”
We now have more songs that require more focused energy, power and heart than musical technique or skill.
Our style has evolved to be invincible even with my terrible guitar.

what was the most awkward/embarrassing moment in the band/on the tour bus/on stage?
GW: It’s a shame. We haven’t heard anything from Hollywood yet over this long career of touring the US.
I’m ready to be the next 007.

What is your favorite Guitar Wolf song to perform live? Why?
GW: I love playing Jet Generation because I want to expand the population of Jet Generation.

What do you value most in life?
GW: Drinking beer, a lot.

Let’s hear a little about your tastes not related to music ― Could you name
some of your favorite books or movies?
GW: Enter the Dragon, Back to the future, Bring me the head of Alfred Garcia.

You are touring the US at the end of September – Tell us about those shows and why we should be there?
GW: You shouldn’t be there if you don’t want to be charmed by my magic.

Hey boys, be good to your girl. OK?! Promise me!

This reporter cringed when the last question tumbled from her lips, but Seiji proved why he is Guitar Wolf!

Is there anything you’d like to say to Cold Kitchen fans all over the world?
GW: What’s “Cold Kitchen”? Don’t be pleased to say something others don’t understand.
Roaches will eat you up!

I would like to thank Seiji (Guitar Wolf), Guitar Wolf and Reiko Kudo for their participation in this interview.
