THE RODEO CARBURETTOR
The Rodeo Carburettor is a three-piece rock trio consisting of guitarist Takeshi Kaji, bassist Makoto Takizawa, and drummer Nobuya Sakai. The band released their first mini-album Moonlight Dance, in November 2004. Immediately followed by their Hello Baby Tour and a second mini-album, Pissed Off, released in March 2005. Their latest album Vandalize, hit stores in August 2009.
The Rodeo Carburettor were the first Japanese artists to perform at the premiere European music conference; In the City 2005. The band is well-known for their live performances that blows the audience away with crazy guitar riffs, howling distortion noises and speedy, sharp lyrics — Spitting out some of the most fascinating rock music Japan has seen since Guitar Wolf. I talked with The Rodeo Carburettor about their newest album Vandalize and world fans.
Please introduce yourselves.
We’re a 3-man band, formed in 2001, and have done about 100 live shows at home and abroad.
Who are The Rodeo Carburettor, and what instruments and brands do they play?
Takeshi Kaji on Vocals and Guitar with a custom Fender Telecaster.
Makoto Takizawa on Bass with a custom Fender Precision.
Dr. Nobuya Sakai on Ludwig drums.
The name The Rodeo Carburettor is very unique, could you tell me how it came to be?
We all love bikes, so we wanted a name with a really wild and out of control ring to it.
Who or what inspired you to pick up your first instrument and how old were you?
We just wanted to be cool! We started playing music around the age of 14.
Remembering back to The Rodeo Carburettor’s first time in front of a live audience, what comes to mind?
We were so nervous; it’s hard to remember anything from our first live.
What has been The Rodeo Carburettor’s greatest challenge?
Our greatest challenge is staying unlike any other!
If the whole world were listening, what would you play? Why?
“Johnny Blaze” off our latest album (Vandalize 2009.08.05) for one. Just the best songs we have!
What is your favorite song to perform live? Why?
Our latest songs are fresh and exciting to play.
What would The Rodeo Carburettor say to world fans?
We want them to know that the best band in Japan, THE RODEO CARBURETTOR is out there!!
I would like to thank The Rodeo Carburettor for their participation in this interview.
