Described as AGGRESSIVE discotheque; “it’s like they took a bazillion bands and meshed them together” – 0.8秒と衝撃。 (0.8Syooogeki) is an eclectic indie duo from Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Formed in 2008, with members Tadaomi Toyama (vocals, guitar) and J.M. (vocals) 0.8秒と衝撃。’s unique vision draws in the listener with an in-your-face creativity that makes fans of even the most jaded of listeners.
Throughout 2008, the band worked hard to get their music heard by entering music competitions and auditioning for record labels. A model, J.M. was signed to an exclusive contract with the Japanese fashion magazine Pinky until the magazine folded in late 2009. Toyama a well known radio personality on Tokyo FM, writes and produces the majority of the duo’s songs with occasional creative input from J.M.
At the end of August 2009, the group began performing live and released their first single “Postman John” a month later. In October of that same year, the band released their debut album Zoo & Lennon on the independent label Actwise. About the time Toyama began writing a column for alternative magazine Skream! in August 2010 – 0.8秒と衝撃。 released their EP Ethnofunky Dostoyevsky Comecome Club.
With 3 EPs and 2 albums to their credit 0.8秒と衝撃。’s latest releases, Ichi-bo Ni-bo San-bo Yon-bo Go-bo Roku-bo, Toyo no Techno (2nd album, May 2011) and the single “Machizō, Machiko, Hakai” (March 2011) are the first two songs of the band to chart on Oricon’s singles and albums charts. And I doubt it will be their last.
