Kulu Kulu Garden members: Ryotaro Aoki (guitar) Kotone Miyahara (vocals, bass)

Kulu Kulu Garden was formed by Ryotaro Aoki (guitar and music) and Kotone Miyahara (vocals, bass and lyrics), in Tokyo, Japan. In 2006, Kulu Kulu Garden began playing shows and recording demos in the Tokyo area. Kyohei Takahashi (drums) of Far France joined and rounded out the line-up as a supporting drummer in late 2008. The trio recorded their first EP Detorake Yuuenchi,, which was released in the summer of 2009.

To coincide with the release, the band held their first record release party; “Shall We (Not) Dance? Vol. 1” in August and shared the stage with other prominent acts from the Tokyo scene. Including, Owarikara, Goomi, and Thai Kick Murph. Agata from Melt-Banana completed the line-up with a rare solo act.

Gathering influences from bands such as Boredoms, Afrirampo, Sonic Youth, and Melt-Banana, Kulu Kulu Garden mixes catchy pop melodies and ferocious guitar-driven rock.  Miyahara’s cute child-like vocals are backed with the chaotic trio of bass, guitar, and drums, which quickly shift from loud insane freak-outs to playful pop sing-a-longs and back.
