My Own Private Alaska (or MOPA) is unique and truly great trio from France. They’re saying “We play rock and pianocore”. But you won’t see typical line-up on band live events. They don’t have guitarist and bassist. MOPA is only piano (TRISTAN MOCQUET aka T), drums (YOHAN HENNEQUIN aka Y) and screaming vocals (MATTHIEU MIEGEVILLE aka MILKA aka M).
Somewhere in between formal minimalism and aesthetic extravaganza, My Own Private Alaska impresses by being authentic. Merging the spectres of Chopin and the crescendos of Will Haven, their music appears at times captivating, gloomy and abrasive. Architects of a fragile and imposing universe, the three sitting musicians have gathered momentum since their creation in 2007. In the aftermath of a successful collaboration with producer extraordinaire Ross Robinson, the band has captured new ground imprinting their enigmatic formula to a broadening audience. The fascination of this French trio unfolds in a space haunted by melancholy piano chords, cathartic screams and the hypnotic pulse of a collective identity. A rapture tainted by madness, beauty and despair. Their sound represents a unique opportunity to dig into a captivating film noir synchronizing your cardiac palpitations to the conscience of a band that defies easy labeling.
During 4 years My Own Private Alaska released their first demo in 2007 named “MOPA” and full-length album “Amen” in 2010. And their new EP “The Red Sessions” is available on Bandcamp for downloads and you can name your own price!
Now band is recording new material for upcoming album. They are changing constantly and we have a chance to hear brand new sound of this extraordinary band in near future.
