Tanuki Project (ザ・狸プロジェクト) is an electro art-rock visual band founded by Legyl (machines, bass, art direction) and Nady (voice, synth, production), including New York drummer David Duclos, video director Etienne Tallard and VJ BlindMan. Tanuki Project’s name is influenced by the manga Pompoko, the members being huge fans of Japanese culture.
The Montreal group blends slick dark dance music with vivid imagery creating their unique indie electronic style that pushes pop boundaries into amazingly strange territories. Seductive vocals, addictive beats, hypnotic bass lines and powerful drums are woven through their video projections, resulting in a well crafted visual and sound experience.
Their debut album Playground for Everyone was released August 2010, with Aquarius Records/Donald K Donald. Songs off the album were also featured in Degrassi (Season 10), BROWNS shoes’ Celebrities for Charity videos, and Spring shoe company’s web ads. In 2010, Tanuki Project toured Canada at Toronto Alternative Fashion Week, Festival Mode & Design in Montreal, showcases at Indie Week Toronto, COCA central regional conference and Canadian Music Week.
In 2011, Tanuki Project will release new material through their own label Go with the Flow called One by One, co-produced with Garrett (ex-Cougarettes) and perform at the Japan Music Week in Tokyo, in November.
Tanuki Project’s mix of electronic beats and hypnotic rock energy with vivid imagery, almost other worldly projections – Is a surrounding audio and visual experience that transports audiences into the realm of the senses.
