Starting back in 1999 The Cherry Cokes$ have attracted an audience in Japan with their unique sound; a drunken Irish punk incorporating banjo, mandolin and tin whistle. Their first album, “Beer my Friends”, brought them to national attention in the indies scene with airplay of their music video on MTV and SpaceShower TV. Now you can find them touring with some of the biggest names in punk when they come to Japan. They have toured with Flogging Molly and The Casualties and have played the Tokyo gigs of such legends as Greenland Whale Fishers and the Dropkick Murphys.
After formation in the period of 1999-2002 band had a lot of gigs and also recorded their first two demo-tapes. In 2003 they started to record new album and at the same time band released split CD with 13ROUND named “THE FREIGHT TRAIN RUNS FOREVER”.
In October 2004 they released debut full-length album “Beer my friends”. And late they went in their first “Beer my friends tour” across Japan that had a big success. During 2004 and next 2005 band shared scene with a lot of Japanese and known overseas bands such as PADDY BEAT form Norway.
In July 2005 The Cherry Cokes$ took part in the huge “Fuji Rock Festival” and had a live broadcasting on M-ON TV. In September they went in the first Flogging Molly tour as support band. And in October 19, second album “Rouse Up” was released.
After a lot of shows band has started to record next album. And finally in July 30, 2008 third full-lenghth album “Sail the pint” was released. And in August they went the release tout “No beer, No sail” that had final in September 8 at Shibuya Quattro.
In an end of April in this year The Cherry Cokes$ released fourth album named “SEVEN”.
The Cherry Cokes$ consists of Katsuo – vocal, banjo; Masaya Suzuki – guitar; Hiromitsu – bass, mandolin, vocal; Yoshiko Suzuki – sax, bodhran, harmonica; Tomo – accordion; Ogata Koya – whistles ＆ trumpet and Tomokazu Mochizuki – drums .
